Benefits

The Client Portal offers an advisor-controlled environment for sharing Asset-Map information with your clients, ensuring both data integrity and workflow efficiency. By utilizing this tool effectively, you can enjoy numerous benefits:

  • Enhance Engagement: Keep the conversation going beyond meetings by providing clients with continuous access to their financial overview, fostering deeper connections.

  • Streamline Communication: Say goodbye to endless email exchanges. Centralizing shared financial views allows you to save time and ensure everyone is on the same page.

  • Efficient Updates: Collect client updates seamlessly through structured suggestions, moving away from informal notes to a more organized approach.

  • Advisor Control: You remain in charge of what clients can view and modify, ensuring that sensitive information is safeguarded while enhancing transparency.

  • Prepare for Success: Use the portal to set the stage for more productive meetings. Clients can review their information in advance, allowing for more insightful discussions.

The secure web portal gives clients a clear view of selected Asset-Map outputs, helping them understand their financial picture. It also lets clients easily suggest updates for the advisor to review.

The Client Portal is not a data-entry system; it is a guided, permission-based tool designed to support advice delivery, streamline meeting preparation, and facilitate ongoing collaboration with clients.

The Client Portal Access Lifecycle

Understanding how portal access works requires separating three distinct steps.

1. Portal Link (Invite)

  • Created by the advisor

  • Includes a permission set that controls visibility and actions

  • Sent to the client with your approved email system

  • Expires if not accepted within a set time (7 days)

The portal link is an invitation, not access by itself.

2. Portal Account

  • Created by the client after clicking the link

  • Uses the client’s email and password

  • Allows login to the Asset‑Map portal environment

Creating an account does not automatically grant household visibility.

3. Household Access

  • Granted only after the client accepts the shared household

  • Determines what financial information appears after login

A client with an account but no accepted household will see an empty portal.

Permission Sets: How Client Access Is Controlled

All Client Portal access is governed by permission sets. A permission set defines what a client can see and what actions they can take in the portal.

Standard Permission Sets

View Only

  • Client can view shared Asset‑Map reports

  • No ability to suggest changes

Suggesting Mode

  • Client can submit suggested updates to financial data

  • Suggestions are reviewed and approved by the advisor

  • Live data is never changed automatically

Custom Permission Sets

  • Advisors can create tailored permission sets

  • Control exactly which pages are visible

  • Set by the firm's Team Manager

Permission sets are assigned when the portal link is created, but can be changed later.

What Clients Can See in the Portal

Depending on the permission set, clients may see:

  • Asset‑Map visual summaries

  • Selected financial reports

  • Advisor contact information

  • An electronic copy of their client-facing report (PDF) if shared

Clients do not see:

  • The advisor’s full workspace

  • Internal notes

  • Relationship Visual View or Target‑Maps

  • Priorites

Advisor Control

A core design principle of the Client Portal is advisor control.

  • Clients never directly edit live Asset‑Map data

  • All suggested changes are reviewed by the advisor before acceptance

  • Advisors decide when, how, and if portal access is granted

  • Access can be updated or revoked at any time

Common Advisor Use Cases

  • Sharing an Asset‑Map before a review meeting

  • Allowing clients to suggest updates ahead of annual planning

  • Giving ongoing visibility to household financial structure

  • Reducing meeting time spent on basic fact‑finding

Frequently Asked Questions

Please keep in mind that Asset-Map Support cannot engage with your clients directly. Thank you!

We have a client that created an asset map account, but when she logs in it says "No Households. Please contact your advisor."

Typically this occurs when the client did not complete the final step of the process. The client needs to click "accept" on the pop-up window that appears. Although they have created their account, no household is visible until they accept their household. The solution is to expire the current log-in and send a new link and notifying the client to be on the lookout for that screen.

Client Suggesting Mode

Your clients will be able to suggest changes to their map. You will be notified via email and in-app notification that a client wishes changes to be made. You must either accept or reject the change. Learn more here.

Will Asset-Map support my clients if they have an issue?

Unfortunately, Asset-Map does not provide direct support to your clients, as they do not have subscriptions and we cannot verify their identities. However, there is a full support center designed for end clients, as well as their advisor's (your) contact information readily available should any issues arise.

How can I help my client learn about the client portal?

Feel free to visit the Advisor Client Portal Resources page located here.

Can my client edit their Asset-Map through their portal?

Only the client's financial advisor has the ability to edit and update the financials of an Asset-Map.

If I (Advisor) update my client's Asset-Map, will changes be automatically reflected in my client's portal?

Yes, any updates will be immediately reflected in the Client Portal.

Which additional areas of the platform can I share with my clients?

In addition to their Asset-Map Report, you can share access to Household Signals, Members, Financials, Balance Sheets, and Policy Summaries. Each area can be set by individual permission sets as well.

What if a client forgets their password?

Encourage the client to use the Forgot Your Password? link on the log-in page.

What if a client has problems getting their multi-factor authentication code?

Have your clients reach out to you for support. Please open a ticket with Asset-Map Support with specific details about the issue. Email support@asset-map.com.

Does the Client Portal have support pages?

Yes! Clients can access the portal Support Center by clicking their likeness in the upper right area and selecting Support Documentation.

Is there a limit to how many households I can share?

No. You can share as many households with as many clients as you wish.

Are Target-Maps available?

Currently, Target-Maps are not available to share on a client's portal.
