Overview
Discovery Interview is an automated, online financial fact-finder designed to streamline data collection. When a prospect or client completes the interview, the system automatically creates a new Household and a corresponding Asset-Map directly within the advisor’s book of business.
Link Types: Inbound vs. Outbound
Asset-Map provides two distinct link types to facilitate data collection. Choosing the correct link depends on whether the prospect is already in your database.
Feature | Inbound Link | Outbound Link |
Primary Use | Lead Generation / Prospecting | Targeted Client Engagement |
Target Audience | Unknown prospects (Cold/Warm leads) | Existing clients or known prospects |
Deployment | Social media, websites, email signatures | Direct, 1-on-1 emails |
Customization | Generic for all users | Personalized for the specific recipient |
Inbound Link
The Inbound Link is a public-facing URL used to capture leads from sources where the prospect's name is not yet known.
Common Channels: Business websites, social media marketing, and digital advertisements.
Compliance Note: Always verify with your firm's compliance department before posting Inbound Links publicly.
Availability: This feature is available on specific plan levels. If you do not see the Inbound Link option, you may need to upgrade your subscription.
Find your Inbound Link
To find Your Inbound Link go to your Discovery administration page.
Look for the Inbound section on the Discovery administration page. There are three actions associated with your inbound link: start now, copy, qr code.
Outbound Link
The Outbound Link is used for proactive outreach to specific individuals already in your pipeline. These links allow for a more personalized experience and are ideal for updating existing client information or following up with a qualified lead.
If you don't have the inbound link and would like to get it, consider upgrading your subscription.
Utilizing Your Inbound Discovery Link
The Inbound Link is designed for broad lead generation and initial client engagement. Use this link when you want a prospect to initiate their own Asset-Map Discovery process.
Best Practices for Distribution
In-Office Discovery: Open the link on a tablet or computer to create an Asset-Map with a prospect in real-time.
QR Codes: Click the QR Code icon to download a custom image for use on physical marketing materials (brochures, business cards, or signage).
Email Signatures: If firm compliance allows, hyper-link your Inbound Link to a "Get Started" button or specific text in your signature.
Note: Contact your IT department for assistance with email disclaimer integrations.
The Discovery Workflow
Once a prospect clicks your Inbound Link, the system transitions them from a generic link to a Household-Specific Link.
Creation: As soon as the prospect begins, a unique link is generated specifically for their household.
Security Timeout: This unique link remains active for a standard 14-day window (though your firm’s specific regulations may vary).
Completion Tracking: You can monitor the progress of the interview via the Discovery Table. Once you are satisfied with the completion percentage, you can generate their Asset-Map.
Troubleshooting Lost Links
If a prospect loses their access after they have already started the process, do not resend the original Inbound Link. Instead, follow these steps:
Scenario | Action |
Link is Active (<14 days) | Locate the household in the Discovery Table. Click the Share Link (curved arrow icon) to copy their unique URL and email it to them. |
Link is Expired (>14 days) | The household link is closed for security. Please contact support or your firm administrator regarding data retrieval or restarting the session. |
Copying and Emailing Your Link to a Prospect
Asset-Map does not send Discovery emails to your prospects or clients. Below is a helpful email template to introduce Discovery and Asset-Map to a prospect. Please copy and save it to your email software, and ensure it meets your compliance guidelines. Adjust it to your liking as you see fit.
📝Note: Attach a sample to the email.
Dear [Prospect Name if known], I have taken the liberty of attaching a one-page visual inventory of all the financial elements of a Sample household. Take a look. A visual map like this helps me to determine how best to coordinate and complement what a client is already doing and helps to educate a household to make better financial decisions going forward.
I use this tool as my client meeting agenda. Therefore, I would like you to create your own map!

Don't worry about details. Just use round numbers and best estimates and we will refine your map when we meet. An accurate Asset-Map Report will enable me to bring more appropriate and relevant ideas and strategies to your table as I become aware of them.
Please reach out to me if you have questions. I’d like to schedule a visit with you at this time. Sincerely, [Financial Professional Name] [Disclaimers if required] |
QR Code
The Inbound link, can be represented as a QR code which you can download and use on a web page, on your business card, or within other lead generating media. The propsect can scan it to get started and complete it right on their mobile device.
The client starts the interview by clicking your inbound link (or that scans your QR code) generates a different link that is specific to them. You are able to resend their specific household link by clicking the Send Discovery arrow icon associated with their entry on the Discovery table. This household link will expire in 14 days.
Start a new Discovery Interview - click the Open New icon.
Copy your inbound link - click the Copy button and pasting it within emails, signatures, and web pages, to name a few options.
Create a QR code - click the QR icon to download a PNG image for use in your marketing materials.
Note: Check with your firm's compliance department for appropriate use.
Inbound Link Notifications
Notifications will be sent to you from our platform via email when someone has clicked your inbound link. You will also be notified when a household interview has been started, when it has expired (closed), and when it has been completed. Notifications are also visible via the bell icon on the platform pages. You may add or remove notifications. Follow this link to administrate your notifications.
Discovery Interview Tracking Table
Use the Discovery Interview tracking table to track inbound interviews that have been started. Here's a link describing the features of the tracking table.
