Add an Insurance / Edit an Insurance

Add a Life, Disability, Long Term Care Insurance, Medical, or Other undefined insurance financial by clicking the Insurance option on the Financials page or from the Household's Actions menu.

Edit an Insurance by clicking its tile on the map or the pencil icon or "Type" name on the Financials page.

  • Fill in or edit the information on the three tabs: Essentials, Details, Notes.

  • The Essentials tab is required, the Details and Notes tabs are optional.

  • Fields with a red asterisk are required. However, if possible, take the time to fill in the fields on all the tabs because much of it is searchable in the Household Index and provides you the means to understand the financial at a glance while updating the map.

  • Dollar values must be typed.

  • Your notes on the Notes tab are viewable or printable from the Reports tab.

  • If using an integration some fields are already filled in (depending on the features of the integration). Yellow fields cannot be edited.

Complete the Essentials Tab

(General instructions are listed here and comments about specific insurances are below.)

Select Insurance Type from drop-down menu. The fields will change depending on the type of insurance selected.

  • Insurance financials appear as tiles with blue borders above the avatar or avatars.

  • Select Relevant Members. Use the drop down to select from one or more members on the map. Selecting more than one creates a large tile extending over two avatars.

  • Legal Entities on the map are also eligible to be assigned insurance.

  • Provide a Reference Name for the financial and an Insurance Carrier in the corresponding text fields.

  • If desired, use the text fields to convey important information or questions. Here are some examples:

Additional Comments on Specific Insurances

Whole, Universal, Variable Life

  • Essentials tab: Insurance with a cash value entered in the Cash Value field will place a blue bordered cash value asset tile on the member (or members) when a policy owner (or owners) is assigned. Use the Policy Owner field to assign the cash value asset.

  • Assigned cash value will appear as an asset resource on a Target-Map.

  • Remove the cash value without removing the Insurance by un-assigning the Policy Owner.

  • Deleting the Insurance deletes the cash value tile as well.

  • A liability may be linked to cash value.

Disability (LTD)

  • This is Long Term Disability, not Short Term Disability. LTD uses annual benefit dollar values.

  • Essentials tab: Select from the following fields: Benefit Interval drop-down menu, Benefit Period (age or date), and enter the Age/Date field. These are carried over to the LTD Target-Map.

Long Term Care (LTC)

  • Essentials tab: Select from the following fields: Benefit Interval drop-down menu, Benefit Period (age or date), and enter the Age/Date field. These are carried over to the LTC Target-Map.

  • If tax qualified, use the check box. This applies to the tax application in the LTC Target-Map.

Property and Casualty (P&C)

  • The P&C tiles can be hidden and displayed using the option found on the Tools Menu > Actions Menu.

  • Hiding the P&C financials will not affect the listing on the Financials page. However, the P&C will be hidden from the Target-Map as a funding option.

  • Selecting Covered Asset(s) visually links the insurance to the asset on the map.

Click Update or Create to finish your work or click Cancel to close the edit window without saving.

Medical

Selecting Medical insurance applies a non-dollar value financial tile on the map. Though Medical will be not be listed on the Policy Summary page nor is it availabe on a Target-Map's What you Have page. If deleted, it is not recoverable.

Other

The Other option creates an untracked general insurance financial that has a visible dollar value, unlike Medical, which has no dollar value. Like Medical, Other is not tracked on the Policy Summary nor is it available as funding on a Target-Map. If deleted, it is not recoverable. Examples of Other insurance could include Liability Insurance, Accident, Critical Illness, Hospital Indemnity, Caregiver Solutions, Pet Insurance, Identity Theft Protection.
