How can I save Negative Values in Asset-Map Financials?

How to Save Negative Values in Asset-Map Financial Entries

When working with financial entries in Asset-Map, you may encounter issues saving negative values. This article explains why these errors occur and provides solutions to ensure your entries are saved correctly.

Why Negative Values Fail to Save

  1. Asset Financials: Negative values are not allowed in asset financial entries. If you need to represent a negative amount related to an asset, you should enter it as a liability tile instead.

  2. Cash Flow Entries: Negative values can only be saved under specific conditions: To record a negative amount, you must change the cash flow type to "Expense", enter the dollar value without a negative sign. This adjustment allows the system to accept and save the negative value.

Examples

  • Asset Financials: If you need to record a $-5,000 adjustment for an asset, create a liability tile with the same amount instead.

  • Cash Flow Entries: To record a $-200 adjustment for an expense, set the cash flow type to "Expense" and then save the entry using a positive number

Impact on Target-Maps

Target-Maps do not register negative cash flow nor Liabilities listed on the client Asset-Map. Spending desires like Living Expenses for example, are entered manually on the What you want page of a Target-Map.
